You are to collaboratively plan and create a digital product with a fantasy theme. You can choose to create either:
a Platformer Expert game using Sketch Nation Create or
a trailer using iMovie.
You will share your digital product with your classmates and then provide helpful feedback to others about their creations.
We are learning to:
define problems in terms of data and functional requirements so we can plan digital solutions
plan and collaborate with others using technology, abiding by protocols for online communication
create and communicate using digital tools

Planning
You will work with a partner or small group to plan your ideas. Your plan should include identification of the data and functional requirements for the project, a breakdown of the tasks you will need to complete, and a timeline of how you will complete the project over the next two weeks.
Product
Your challenge is to create a fantasy storytelling experience through a digital medium. You may work with others for this part of the task, but each person needs to create their own digital product. For example, you might work together to plan and film for the iMovie trailer, but you will need to share the video files with each person in your group so that everyone can create their own trailer. The finished products may be similar, but won't be identical.
FAQs
Can I work with a partner or in a group? Yes. You must work with at least one other person in the planning of your digital product. If you are creating an iMovie trailer, you will need to have at least two people (one to hold the camera, and one to act). You can share the raw video segments with your group members using AirDrop so that you will each be able to create a trailer on your own device. If you are creating a game using Sketch Nation Create, you will plan together and share ideas for themes and characters etc., but will need to each create a game on your device.
Can I make a game or trailer based on my own fantasy story idea? If you are currently planning or writing a fantasy story, creating a trailer or game is a great way to crystallise your thinking and share your ideas with your classmates.
Can I make a game or trailer based on a fantasy story I have read or a movie I have seen? You can innovate on another author’s ideas to create a game, but you should acknowledge the original author by giving credit. The fantasy story you select should be appropriate for Under 12s, and the game you create should reflect the values and ethos of our school community.
Is it ok to use guns and violence in my fantasy story? Your game or trailer needs to be suitable for an Under 12 audience and fit in with our school’s values and ethos. The use of guns and unnecessary violence and bloodshed is outside of these guidelines. Be more creative in your thinking.
How will my work be assessed? There are three main things you will need to demonstrate in your work:
your ability to plan the task by identifying the "data" you need to include to make your work a successful fantasy storytelling experience, and decomposing the task into smaller jobs that need to be completed.
your ability to work collaboratively and communicate with others using a variety of online tools, and adhering to appropriate protocols and standards.
your creativity and technical skill in producing a quality product.
There are four things you will need to submit over the next few weeks:
A plan that you have worked on with others (it should show the "data" you will need for your solution and how you will break the task down into smaller parts to complete it on time)
A digital product (either an iMovie trailer or a Sketch Nation Create platformer expert game)
A reflection on how well your plan worked and what you learnt through the experience
Peer feedback about the creativity and quality of the product
